Sony Launches New Indie Category on PlayStation Store

Sony has today launched an all-new Indie Games area on the PlayStation Store, providing players access to the best indie titles across all PlayStation platforms.

The news comes by way of the European PlayStation blog, where SCEE?s Director of Publisher and Developer Relations Andrew Parson introduces the new PlayStation Store category.

Sony has been doing a lot of legwork over the past few years, building up more support from indie developers for both PlayStation 3, and its latest handheld, PlayStation Vita.

Most recently, high-profile Australian indie studio Nnooo announced they?ve successfully been approved to develop for Sony?s next-generation console, PlayStation 4.

And with the ever-increasing number of indie games now available on both platforms, this new space on the PlayStation Store is a great way for Sony to further promote new indie titles separate from its retail releases, as well as push new promotions and specials.

To commemorate the launch of this new indie space, Sony are offering the recent indie runaway hit Retro City Rampage for half price. This game is available in Australia only for PlayStation Vita due to classification reasons.

Do you find Sony?s new approach to indies refreshing? Are you happy they?re giving more space on the PSN to more creatively driven titles? Let us know in the below comments!
